“Constantly seek criticism. A well thought out critique of whatever you’re doing is as valuable as gold.”
-Elon Musk
Although getting criticized is certainly not the best feeling in the world, there is great news: Receiving criticism is part of the growth process. Constructive criticism is not something that you should avoid or detest; rather, it is what you must come to expect on your journey to becoming better – it’s all part of the process of learning, growing, and developing. Criticism is defined as the judgement of the merits and faults of the work or actions of one individual by another. Criticism is getting a bad rap – “criticizing” does not necessarily mean “to imply fault”, the word is often taken to mean prejudice or disapproval. The dictionary fails to include a more thorough explanation to the value and meaning of criticism and what it can offer to an individual. Constructive criticism is a blessing, not a curse.
“Stand up to criticism. You will see all fears vanish. Whenever needed, give constructive criticism.”
-Gurudev Sri Ravi Shankar
“Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.”
-Winston Churchill
“The trouble with most if us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.”
-Norman Vincent Peale
“Taking constructive criticism from others is required to get to the next level.”
-Wendy Starland
“If you can’t tolerate critics, don’t do anything new or interesting.”
-Jeff Bezos
“Criticism is something we can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.”
-Aristotle
