Responseit’s in your hands

Responseit’s in your hands

Oct 24, 2026

Stoic philosophers in ancient Greece and Rome believed that whether an event beyond our control is good or bad depends only on our reaction to it.

When events unfold beyond your control, focus on what you can influence, rather than what you cannot change. Dwelling on circumstances that are outside your power often leads to frustration and wasted energy, while directing attention toward your attitude, decisions, and responses helps you remain productive and resilient. By accepting reality as it is,  you can approach challenges with a clearer perspective and make thoughtful choices about the next steps to take. Remember, it’s all about your reaction.

At the same time, recognize that unexpected situations can bring disappointment, stress, or uncertainty. Instead of reacting impulsively, your goal should be to remain calm, learn from the experience, and adapt as needed. Maintaining a positive outlook does not mean ignoring difficulties; it means understanding that setbacks are a natural part of life and that personal growth often comes from how we respond to them. Through patience and flexibility, you can move forward, even when circumstances do not go as planned.

“Look at the word responsibility — ‘response-ability’ — the ability to choose your response.”
-Stephen R. Covey

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
-Viktor E. Frankl

“You can’t always control circumstances. However, you can always control your attitude, approach, and response.”
-Tony Dungy

“It’s not the situation, but whether we react negative or respond positive to the situation that is important.”
-Zig Ziglar
